GenerVeneration

His skin and lack of facial hair gave his age away. 15 Years old, covered in teenage spots, teeth held together with a brace, hair gelled at least 8 inches above his head a nervous smile and then he spoke. "winning this talent show means everything to me, it's my life" said the 15 year old, the 17 year old, the 27 year old and the 47 year old on X-Factor the talent show that trawls through the disillusioned, the talentless, the blatantly freakish and the microscopic few that are half decent and marketable. I think. It seems almost everywhere you go these days we have people that have become obsessed with the idea that fame equals happiness. "All I want is to be known, to be famous, to be a star" They crave attention, adoration, love, recognition of some kind. And there are those that can gain this almost instantly. Like the kids covered in head to toe in tattoos that gain the head turning, jaw dropping moments as they walk through the mall begging to be looked at and admired by their peers but repulsed by their adults. The young girls that walk almost exposed at levels that used to only be for the bedroom, again heads turn, jaws drop, eyes pop and the adults are shocked as they see the blatant hype that a youth has believed that 'just' sex makes the wanted. And almost on every corner, at many ages this 21st century disease of the GenerVeneration can be seen almost everywhere. How can it be that a teenager would say on live TV that winning a competition is his or her life especially when they clearly have no talent? Their mother, father, step mum, step dad, brother, sister or gang of pals tells them continually they are amazing. Not! Why is that? What's happened? Over the past few decades as the consumer society exploded we were taught that having more through endless media hype and advertising that this would result in lasting happiness. Kids should have everything to make them happy. We should work harder and harder to provide. So we went to work and stayed at work. Kids went to a 'place for kids'.

  • New games, buy them.

  • New toys, buy them.

  • New clothes, buy them.

  • New phones, buy them.

  • New anything ... buy them it, it'll make them happy.

So when they get to the age when the toys, the stuff the crap is no longer a feature in their lives they feel that getting the attention or Veneration of others is the what really makes them happy. Until that phase passes them by, they get to a stage in life when they mature enough to acknowledge actually ... " I just wanted my mum and dad to love me, because that would have made me happy" Yet sadly mum and dad got wrapped up in the hype, the race of who gets what when. A large endless bucket that can never be filled. Mum and ad were busy working, busy storing away for the future, busy making sure they have the latest cars on the drive, the best house in the row and more holidays to better places each year. Whilst the kids cried, wanted attention, wanted to be heard ... mum and bought them something else to MAKE THEM HAPPY. Result is the GenerVeneration. The generation that is obsessed with veneration of some kind. Not really, this is a generation created by the lack of love, the lack of time and attention. A.D.D. as an illness ... what an excuse for a failed generation of parenting. Is it? Is it crap? Some kids are watching 50-60-70 TV and gaming weekly. A new DVD comes out they get it. A new game comes out, they own it. A new IPhone has arrived ... they have it in their pockets. We fill the void of love with a packing of stuff that keeps them interested or stimulated. Think about it. Gaming is all absorbing. The kids run, hide, shoot, drive, kill, slaughter, escape even have sex in games. They can do this hour after hour of time. This is over stimulation on a huge scale. Take them away from a TV or gaming machine and what happens? They can no longer hold attention on anything that isn't stimulating their deepest senses. It's a little like eating pre-prepared store food for 20 years. It's packed with salt, additives and flavoring's. The you try natural foods. YUK ... tastes inedible. Why? Your sense have become over stimulated and reset to accept utter crap rather than the real thing. So we go back to eating our body's into ill health and an early grave. No wonder we are faced with a GenerVeneration Xyx of kids today. They want love. We give them something They want love. We tell them to shut up. They want love. We tell them to go play. They want love. We think they are trouble. Sad but a reflection on us in 2009 that we have created a history of a loveless generation of parents that believe over stimulation of everything equals happiness. You are your child's history. Your actions right now are being embedded into the history of your child. When they are 45 they will say "mum was or did this" Dad was or did that". But did what? Never played with them, spoke to them or bought them endless junk that is now 3,000 feet below ground in a landfill somewhere? Will your kids say ... "My parents were always too busy, they just were, busy working, busy buying stuff, busy beating the neighbor's at who had what. They were always too busy for me, that's for sure" No wonder our GenerVeneration want to be venerated. So the next time you see a young kids with a tattooed face. A young kid acting in a way you might feel is bizarre. A kid with no apparent talent on a TV show just remember, they are part of a spoiled and neglected and loveless Generation now looking for Veneration. Is this true? I'm not sure, it's an opinion, my opinion. Unless you are swept away by guilt so unable to reply I really like to know what you think. Hit the comment below and fire away!
