Today I'm Doing Nothing
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Some days…I feel like doing nothing.Today is one of those days so I will do nothing or at least it LOOKS like I'm doing nothing.Yet, I believe that doing nothing can give me everything.I also believe doing too much can lose me everything.Let me explain. You might not know this so I will share this with you..I have around ten different businesses. Most I have had for a long time now.We have had our property business in Tbilisi, Georgia, since 2013. All four of our properties in Tbilisi are rented and booked out most of the year.My fledgling www.OldDadProject.com I have had now for just a year. The traffic it organically gets is just huge so I am designing a new clothing range for that as I type.I started really writing books in print since 2012 and currently have maybe four or five books on the go at any one time. I sell books just about everywhere online including Amazon..My blog at www.alanforrestsmith.com has been there in varying formats since 1999. A lot of the writings sadlty were lost at one point (before the days of cloud and auto back-up). This also carries a speaking, lecturing, consulting and advising side to this business. And then there is my high-demand www.salonpunk.com which has been around since 1999 (it has had one huge change in those years from hairee.com to salonpunk.com in 2007).With www.salonpunk.com I have many branches leading off. This includes speaking, lecturing, super extreme consultancy, writing, advising, meetings (I hate). If left uncontrolled this can devour my time. And of course, my oldest business that is OrangeBeetle.com. In various formats, I began this as a side-business when I had my hairdressing salons. It got out of control very (in a good way) and this enabled me to sell my salons and change my career. The change in www.OrangeBeetle.com is always constant because fundamentally is it based in human interactions and behaviours which change all the time.AND ...I am also writing a new pilot TV series for a client for the BBC.I am also writing a screenplay for a movie of my own that I have had on my mind for years. And I also have to try to control my thinking through my own form of meditation so I can hold back new ideas as they tend to make me leave other ideas behind and move forward too fast. And of course, my biggest project to date is my new son Demna Davit (4-months as I write). He is a force that devours my time but it is the best use of my time. He is the future. And finally, my number one project is my wife Tamuna. She has priority always. I discovered this. If a relationship isn’t cared for and looked after I will have nothing. My wife is a foundation for all things at all times. She is everything to me. She is always my priority. So, when I say I feel like doing nothing it isn’t that I have nothing to do I have a ton of things to do but today I feel like doing nothing.Recently, I started a long consulting process with a new client. It is a 12-month project minimum. They are very well established and doing very well. I am working with them on new and big ideas to create a more distinct business that has the power to attract rather than force through.I have also started noting out the second episode for the TV drama I am writing and will probably get stuck into that tomorrow. But today is a nothing day. That means I do NO THING.YET ...I believe when I do nothing everything happens. It is a little like when we stop doing things in an office, switch everything off and then empty the office, clean the office and put things back in new places. The new energy is powerful and has an almost magical effect and result.Today, I will just drink a lot of coffee, sit and dream and observe. This gives me time to restructure my thinking and get ready for a more powerful day tomorrow. Now you might be wondering how do I make all of those things above actually work at the same time when I read to be doing so little? The truth is I don’t over think them I just do them. I get a feel for what the market needs and do my best to deliver what is happening right now. I have also mastered the art of doing more in a single day than most will do in a week or even a month. That gives me more time than most.Last night I began designing a simple piece of jewellery for my wife. I spent time looking at ideas and then creating a rough draft of what I want to create. Maybe I will carry on with that later.I have also been asked to offer an interview for writers in an American magazine. It’s a long list of questions I need to slowly pour through. I might do that.I also have to remember, when the schools go back it can get very busy for me so now is a good time to refuel my mind get ready for that period.Anyway … nothing gets done until the first coffee with my wife. When is the last time you did nothing?Alan Forrest Smith [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
