Who Can We trust?
During a time when we really need answers, we find ourselves looking to those in a position of leadership to be led. Yet there is always that one nagging question and it is this.
Can I trust that leaders are telling the truth during the age of the liar?
As the pandemic started to get a grip, relentless panic, fear and even blatant misinformation drove people to obey the advice and orders from the government.
This fear is what keeps most of mankind under control. Yet this fear was a little different. It was a fear of what we were told would be certain death.
As time has passed questions have begun to rise as they would and will.
And yes people have died but are we all at risk?
Not according to some scientists that are now saying most of us weren’t at risk. Yet politicians are saying most of us are at risk.
And now the virus is coming to its close the numbers are revealing and will reveal more as time passes.
The numbers and actual facts are available online if you dig deep enough for yourself. It is clear most of us were never at any real risk. This was no bubonic plague as we were told.
But that isn’t the point.
The point is who can we trust?
Trust is a deeply engrained part of all humans and human society. We are designed to trust the guidance of others. My one-year-old son does as we tell him. His inner guidance system is set to trust and not question.
Yet it appears we are also designed to trust ourselves as we grow and develop.
It also seems apparent that trust is something we have to develop and is not something we switch off and on.
There is a TV show called Race Across The World.
Five teams of couples start the race from one location and then have to travel across the globe without flying. They are allowed no credit cards, no phones and no internet.
At the start of the race, most of them freak out over something as simple as asking a foreigner how to get from here to there. Most freak out at having no phone. And most freak out in the first few days when they don’t even have a place to stay. They are also given limited funds so they have to trust themselves to hold back from spending those funds too quickly.
They are totally out of their very modern comfort zone which includes allowing others to make life decisions for them.
As time passes they quickly realise they have to trust themselves and trust others. They have to trust that they can do this or drop out. They have to trust total strangers to help and point them in the right direction. This even includes staying with strangers, being fed by strangers and acting on the advice of total strangers.
At the end of the 8-weeks what is truly fascinating is despite the fact they haven’t once flown and only taken boats, cars, trucks and anything that moves them in the right direction two couples arrived at the finish point at the furthest city in Argentina within 20-seconds of each other.
Trust.
They learned to trust themselves and discovered that trusting others was fine.
So why is it trusting politicians and other leaders is so difficult today?
Let's take just two leaders.
Boris Johnson (U.K.) proudly lied through his teeth during BREXIT and lied just about everything so he could become the Prime minister. His people were fine with that. His followers were fine with that. Lying is the way to persuade and persuasion was the goal.
Donald Trump (USA) also lied and lies just about everything and anything. His followers trust and believe. They even accept he is from and appointed into his position by God himself.
Both obsessed with ratings and being adored by the masses.
With both of them, their endless lies are easily fact-checked and seen for all to see. Yet the still survive through the lies. It seems as long as people are doing fine they will allow the liars to lead. The trust them but the trust is more a matter of convenience.
So when something of major importance arrives like this pandemic we are left asking can we trust what habitual liars are telling us? Or are they telling us what they want us to hear for the sakes of staying in power? Even some scientist have now been shown to inflate reality. In the U.K. For example, we were talking about certain numbers of half a million deaths. Our numbers are shockingly high but nowhere near half a million.
Is it impossible for these pseudo leaders to tell the truth? How can we trust if they are ever telling the truth?
In other words, we now live in a world where lying has become an acceptable tool for most things. The fundamental problem with lying is it erodes the most basic adhesive fabrics of society. That fabric is trust.
In the future trust and honesty will become the new commodity of power. It will become a new global currency demanded from the masses. It will be sought after by the masses during and after the age of the liar has passed.
Trust can be built into ourselves. Trust has to be formed, nurtured and grown. This is done by what we allow into our minds and through the windows of our eyes and the feed into our ears.
Trust is developed through intelligent self-education and personal growth. We have to read well, see well and listen well. Then and only then can we make changes that are informed and in-tune with ourselves without over-reliance on lairs.
Who can we trust in the age of the liar?
It would seem there are those we can trust but the best starting point is ourselves.
